The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) is made up of combat veterans from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Their hobby is riding motorcycles, and their mission is to support and defend the people who have displayed the courage to defend our nation and the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.
Members come from all 50 states. Many live abroad and continue to serve in our Armed Forces, some in combat areas currently. The association sponsors a variety of motorcycle charity events throughout the year. They are a non-profit association and donate any proceeds to worthwhile veteran charities, such as veteran health care centers.
History of the CVMA
On May 1, 2001, 45 combat veteran motorcycle enthusiasts established the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association with the purpose of helping veterans. A wearable patch has been adopted for the original 45 members to wear, showing that they were the original founding members of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.
The CVMA was well accepted by members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at post and at division levels. Acceptance on a national level met with little success, so in December 2002, the membership of the CVMA voted to no longer require VFW membership. The association was opened up to all combat veterans who ride motorcycles. Today, full combat members of the association wear a one-piece patch with the CVMA background and the old skull logo.
Nine chapters of the CVMA are located in the state of Texas.
