Possible Damage to Rear Brake Line Prompts Harley-Davidson Recall

By King Law Firm on January 9, 2013 - Comments off

Harley-Davidson Motor Company has announced a recall of 2,798 motorcycles. Harley-Davidson Inc. is an American company founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Harley-Davidson motorcycles are manufactured at four locations in the U.S. today in the states of Wisconsin, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. As reported by Fox6Now.com, the recall has been issued because of a potential defect in the license plate bracket assembly. The bracket’s assembly may become loose causing it to detach from the rear fender. Contact with the rear tire could occur, the license plate bracket could then rotate, coming into contact with and causing damage to the rear brake line.

Brake Problem May Be Gradual

Damage to the rear brake line may not immediately be noticed but could gradually impair brake performance. A crash could result, which could cause injury or death to the riders. Motorcycle accident lawyers are familiar with the serious risk of harm or death that defective parts or manufacturing can create.

Harley-Davidson has filed documents with the U.S. National Highway Safety Administration indicating that the models affected include all 2012 and certain model year 2013 VRSCDX made between June 14, 2011 and August 1, 2012. The company notified owners and is in the process of repairing the problem with no charge to the owner.

If owners suspect their motorcycles should be included in the recall but have not been informed yet, they can contact Harley-Davidson by calling (414) 343-4056. Owners may also call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
