Zuma Scooters Recalled Due to Stalling Problem

By King Law Firm on February 20, 2013 - Comments off

Scooters are becoming more and more popular across the U.S., not just for the fun of riding but for the practicality of saving on gas. America is finally catching on to something the Japanese and the Europeans have known for some time. Riding scooters is a practical, economical way to travel to and from work or school, run errands, etc.

The Yamaha Corporation has long been known for manufacturing quality motorcycles, scooters, outboard motors, etc. Defective motorcycle attorney Ray King understands that mistakes can happen in manufacturing or in product design. Problems with scooters and motorcycles can contribute to loss of control and to personal injury accidents.

The Problem

As reported by usridernews.com, Yamaha has issued a product recall of certain 2009 model year Zuma 125 scooters. Dates of manufacture were July 2008 through April 2009. Engine stalling could increase the threat of a crash when the scooter is maneuvering in and out of traffic. Improper clearances in components of internal fuel pumps can create an insufficient supply of gas and result in engine stalling.

Owners of the scooters began to report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the scooters’ engines would stall in hot weather while the scooter was on the highway. 8,700 units are affected in the recall which is listed on the NHTSA website as campaign number 13V035000.

Remedy

Owners will be notified by Yamaha of the recall, and Yamaha dealers will be instructed to install a newly designed fuel pump in place of the old one. Letters of notification will begin to be mailed on February 19, 2013.
